SEAFORD 4th XI 249-6 BEAT PEVENSEY 2nd XI 245-7 (28/06/08)

Seaford fourths, who are in third place in the league, welcomed second placed Pevensey II to a blustery Salts.

Simon Pitts won the toss and put the visitors in but a weakened bowling attack struggled to make inroads but the bowlers stuck at it with Simon Pitts taking 2-42 and Paul Wood 2-43 as Pevensey made 245 – 7 in the full 50 overs.

They were also helped by three run outs and it was after one of these that an upset batsman decided to go home, taking another player with him.

This was a huge total to chase in 43 overs even against a reduced number of fielders and it looked like a mountain to climb when Seaford’s openers were both out in the first two overs.

Skipper Simon Pitts then took the anchor role making 42, happy to let Jon Sapwell take the lead role to make a mighty impressive 62, his first senior 50 in a stand of 95 and the skipper then put on 69 with Gavin Wright. This reduced the target down to 70 from the last 10 overs and it was a welcome return to form for Wright who hit thirteen 4’s and one huge 6 in his 69.

Paul Wood 14 not out and 13 year old Tom Pitts, who smashed 28 not out all in boundaries, then put on an unbeaten 45 to win the game for Seaford 249-6 with 14 balls remaining.

Next week Seaford travel to Sidley.
