Seaford Ladies 2008

SEAFORD LADIES v LITTLEHAMPTON LADIES  (31/07/08)

Our last game of the season saw Littlehampton Ladies arrive at the Salts under threatening skies.

Seaford Ladies won the toss and elected to field first. The two Littlehampton openers, Hayley and Michelle, confidently kept hitting boundaries off our opening bowlers, Miranda Caillard and Chloe Sharp, and the runs steadily increased.   It wasn’t until Katie Reid’s 4th over that we managed to get Michelle run out on 32 with the score at 76.  Alicia Caillard continued to bowl tightly but was unable to get a wicket. Sue Evans then came on and with her 5th ball managed to get Emma caught out by Miranda. Chloe came back on for her last spell and with her first ball was able to get Hayley, the opening batswoman, caught on 65 by new girl Harriet McKellar! Chloe’s determination paid off with her 4th ball of the same over and she clean bowled Laura on 7. Chloe finished on a well deserved 2 wickets for 23 runs. Well done, Chloe! However, we ran out of overs and Littlehampton finished on 133 for 4.

The rain kept off but Seaford’s turn to bat was disastrous and we only managed to score 22 runs! Michelle from Littlehampton ended on figures of 5 wickets for 7 runs! This is an area that we must work on for next season.

Our first full season has been a bit trial and error and our view is that we can only get better. Our fielding and bowling has definitely improved throughout the season and we have gelled as a team. The girls/ladies have all enjoyed their cricket, been a credit to the Club and are looking forward to playing again next year. Our thanks go to John Smith for coaching us, Mark, John, Phil Lovesay and Phil Court for umpiring and to our families for supporting us!

CUCKFIELD LADIES (41 – 0) V SEAFORD LADIES (40 all out) – 27.07.08

Our penultimate game of the season took us away to Cuckfield on a blisteringly hot and airless Sunday.

Seaford won the toss and Captain Katie Reid elected to bat first. She opened with Beth Anderton-Allen who was bowled in the second over by F Harris – out for 0. The new partnership with Chloe Sharp progressed slowly with Katie scoring several boundaries until Chloe was bowled for 0 by P Dagger. Su Evans came in and scored 2 more 4s before being bowled by spinner N Sole. Katie went on to score 23 until she was caught and bowled by F Harris who took a stunning catch. The lower end of the batting order did not fare any better with Miranda Caillard being bowled for 0 again by Sole, young Alicia Caillard bowled by M Janman for 2 runs and Debbie Spragg not out. Seaford all out unfortunately for 40 in 7.5 overs!

Cuckfield knew they had only a low score to beat but Seaford fielded well, keeping P Dagger and E Hardy down to singles and 2s. Beth particularly made a very good effort as stand-in wicket keeper this week. In all, our bowlers, Mirianda and Alicia Caillard and Chloe Sharp did well to stretch it out to 6.3 overs before Cuckfield won.

Our last game of the season against Littlehampton is on Thursday 31st July at the Salts.

SEAFORD LADIES TRIP TO HASTINGS ENDS IN DEFEAT (13/07/08)

Hastings 163-5 beat Seaford 45 all out

SEAFORD LADIES 55 ALL OUT v HORSHAM LADIES 183 – 3 (29.06.08)

After a couple of weeks break, we welcomed Horsham Ladies to the Salts with windy but sunny conditions.

Seaford had a full line up this week facing a strong Horsham team. We lost the toss and were elected to field first. The Horsham opening batswomen were very confident and the Australian N Gaire made an impressive 70 runs not out. Her partner E Adams was run out by some sharp fielding on 29 making 73 together. Our bowlers, Alicia Caillard, Chloe Sharp, Sue Evans and Katie Reid, are improving every week and continued to bowl good length and line. Chloe’s persistence paid off in the 12th over and she took a well deserved wicket. Young Alicia also bowled extremely well and had M Deeming LBW for 0. The ever increasing wind was difficult to bowl into and Horsham did not lose any more wickets to finish on 183 for 3.

The Horsham score was a bit daunting but we were confident that our openers, Captain Claire Noble and Katie Reid, would score a few runs together. This was not to be, however, and Claire was bowled for only 14 runs. Her new bat not bringing her much luck this week! Katie stuck it out but still only managed another 14 runs before being caught and bowled. The rest of the team only gained 13 more runs before we were all out for 55.

Horsham won by 128 runs - a disappointing result for our last home game. Next week we go away to Cuckfield.

SEAFORD LADIES 84–5 v BRIGHTON & HOVE LADIES 204–2 (08/06/08)

Seaford’s opposition this week were Brighton & Hove on another beautiful and warm day at the Salts.

Due to exams and ill health the Seaford team was reduced to 7 ladies this week, but we were determined to try our best against a well established side. Brighton won the toss and elected to bat first. Our bowlers, Chloe Sharp, Sue Evans, Beth Anderton-Allen and Katie Reid took on the challenge but it wasn’t until the 12th over that Evans caught and bowled J Elphick for 27 with the score at 116. Brighton’s opener S Cawley had already retired on 52 and Elphick’s replacement, S Price also retired later on 50. As the runs began to pile on, we had another breakthrough in the 17th over with some quick fielding resulting in R Lund run out at the hands of Captain and wicket keeper, Claire Noble. However, Brighton did not make any more mistakes and finished their 20 overs on 204 for 2.

Claire Noble opened the batting for Seaford with Katie Reid. Noble was bowled for only 7 runs but Reid stayed on to score a well deserved 37 hitting 6 boundaries. Sharp was unluckily caught LBW for 1 and Evans looked good to start by hitting a magnificient 6, but was eventually bowled by Lund who took 3 wickets. When Anderton-Allen was bowled for 2 with the score at 69 it was left for Debbie Spragg and Katy Smith to last out the last few remaining overs scoring only 3 between them, the rest of the runs given by wides. Seaford ended their spell on 84 for 5 losing the match by 120 runs.

It was a good match for us to gain some more experience and we can only learn by this and improve. We look forward to our next match against Horsham with a more strengthened side.

Match against Littlehampton Ladies is cancelled (01/06/08)
Due to overnight rain and an already wet pitch the match was unfortunately cancelled.

First win for the ladies
Seaford Ladies enjoyed their first ever win as they defeated Steyning ladies by 6 wickets at the Salts.  Match Report.
